Eating Local Season Food Matters!

Stacey, founder of HealthBarn USA, had a great time with Dr. Derrick DeSilva, host of 12 To Your Health, in studio taping a segment about the importance of eating local, seasonal food for your health and the health of the planet for News 12 NJ.  The segment will run this weekend on News 12 NJ, Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27 at 6:30 am, 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:00 pm, 1:30 pm  for both dates.

It was all about Jersey Fresh produce with so many delicious and nutritious fruits and veggies such as kale, spinach, strawberrries, asparagus and collard greens readily available locally now.  Click here to find out where to buy local seasonal produce in your community.

At HealthBarn USA, we believe the best way to eat fresh local food is to grow your own!  That’s why we teach kids and their families how to grow their own food organically and simply.  Supporting local farmers’ and buying as much produce as possible locally in season gets a gold star. Best quote, “these strawberries are so good I’m never going to buy them from the supermarket again, I just want to live here and eat them all day long!

People want to know how we are able to get so many kids to eat their fruits and vegetables!  The HealthBarn USA secret is…. get kids involved in every step of the process from growing their own food, to cooking it and eating their bounty with delicious and healthy recipes.

Here are the top recipe picks at the barn that were featured on 12 To Your Health Creamy Asparagus Soup (switch out asparagus for broccoli in June and July) and Spinach Pesto Pasta.  Please download and let us know what you think!
