Special Needs

Learning life skills for health!

HealthBarn USA partners with Bergen County Special Services, to offer the Transition Center at Woodbridge, a dynamic, hands-on healthy-lifestyle 30-week program held weekly at HealthBarn USA.  The lessons are modified to meet the needs of the students and are integrated into the science and life skills curricula at the school.

The children, ages 14-21, experience the four seasons at the Barn; try a variety of natural foods; learn about healthy-lifestyle skills; and become skilled at cooking nutritious recipes that reflect the seasonal availability of the produce. Each workshop is 2.0 hours in length followed by a brown-bag lunch and is taught by master’s in nutrition and are registered dietitian.

Here’s what a special needs teacher had to say about her experience:

“We have seen a major change in our students approach to healthy eating and nutrition and general as a result of their time spent at HealthBarn USA,” principal Robert Mortano, Transition Center, NJ.
