Learning life skills for health!

HealthBarn USA partners with Bergen County Special Services, to offer the Transition Center at Woodbridge, a dynamic, hands-on healthy-lifestyle 30-week program and an 8-week program held weekly at HealthBarn USA located at Abma’s Farm in Wyckoff, NJ. The lessons are modified to meet the needs of the students and are integrated into the science and life skills curricula at the school.

The children, ages 14-21, experience the four seasons of the farm; try a variety of natural foods; learn about healthy-lifestyle skills; and become skilled at cooking nutritious recipes that reflect the seasonal availability of the produce. Each workshop is 2.0 hours in length followed by a brown-bag lunch at the farm.

Here’s what a special needs teacher had to say about her experience:

“My only recommendation would be to please continue to provide students of all ages with such a wonderful experience.  The program provides children with a nice blend of informational and hands-on activities that they would not necessarily get in other settings.  It is a terrific program! ” teacher at Visions-Becton high school.
