Chef Table: The Secrets of Japanese Mindful Eating & Traditional Tea Ceremony

HealthBarn USA is excited to welcome the New Year with a dynamic, hands-on evening of inquiry, empowerment and taste of Japan. Japanese native and nutritionist, Michiko Tomioka will guide us through Yakuzen cooking to build skills in preparation and presentation of this food as medicine art form. She will also honor guests by sharing Chanoyu (the way of tea) traditional macha tea ceremony to welcome the New Year. This authentic Japanese experience filled with Michiko’s joy and passion for mindful eating and health is not to be missed.
**New Year Kaiseki Menu 一汁二菜 **
Gomatofu: Sesame and kudzu tofu
Zouni: New Year miso soup with root vegetables
Shiraae: Seaweed and vegetable salad with tofu
Saikyou Yaki: Miso based Grilled fish
Sekihan: Brownrice with with Azuki
Wagashi: Vegan Japanese sweets with bowl of matcha

Michiko Tomioka, MBA, RDN, IFNCP, is a Japanese native registered dietitian and integrative functional nutritionist, and a founder of Michi Nutrition LLC.. Her experiences include nutritional and education at a recovery center, long-term care, WIC, NYC public school, Foodbank NYC. while sharing whole plant-based cooking and mindfulness in diverse community. She is actively practicing a chado “way of tea”, Yakuzen “medicine meals”, and mindfulness skills at Center for Mind, Body, and
Medicine.
